Dr Katriona Brooksbank Joins Board of Trustees

Hi Scotland is pleased to announce the appointment of Katriona Brooksbank to its Board of Trustees.

Katriona Brooksbank is Regional Head of Innovation at the West of Scotland Innovation Hub (WoSIH), hosted by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, where she supports end-to-end healthcare innovation across NHS Boards in the West of Scotland.

Her work spans clinically focussed, digital & data-driven innovation, linking closely with colleagues across the East and North of Scotland Innovation Hubs, with core funding from the Chief Scientist Office and Scottish Government. WoSIH contributes expert advice to the Accelerated National Innovation Adoption (ANIA) pathway and supports system transformation through digital, AI and innovation expertise across NHSGGC and West of Scotland Boards.Katriona has worked across academia, industry and the health service in the UK and internationally, bringing extensive experience in the ethical design and delivery of observational research, clinical trials, and evidence generation for novel therapeutics, medical devices, digital health solutions and Artificial Intelligence (AI) & software as a medical device.She holds a BSc (Hons) in Genetics (Immunology) and a PhD in Medicine and Therapeutics from the University of Aberdeen.

To complement her post-doctoral and innovation work, Katriona completed a Master of Laws in Medical Law and Ethics and a PGCert in Data, AI & Ethics at the University of Edinburgh.Katriona is Chair of the Health Research Authority Research Ethics Committee (WoSREC1), providing independent ethical review of research involving NHS patients and facilities. She also supports intellectual property and benefit-sharing discussions with academic, industry and public-sector partners to enable responsible co-development of innovation.An Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Glasgow and the University of Stirling, Katriona leads and contributes to teaching and research focused on ethical, legal and regulatory-ready innovation in healthcare. As Programme Director for the MSc MedTech Innovation at the University of Glasgow, she is committed to developing industry-ready, multidisciplinary graduates equipped to thrive in the MedTech and life sciences ecosystem.

Katriona is passionate about supporting paediatric innovation, not just because of her day job in the NHS but also her family’s experiences with 2 of her children being cared for in NGSGGC NICU & SCBU.
